Get To Know Hair La Vie Brand Manager Jillian DeMarche

Recently, we had a chance to chat with Jillian Demarche, our CBM (brand manager) for Hair La Vie®. We managed to ask her what a typical day in a CBM’s life looks like, and she gave us some valuable insight about her selfcare regimen and what she envisions next for Hair La Vie®

Hair La Vie: Tell us about how you got your start in beauty?

Jillian DeMarche: I actually cannot remember a time when I wasn’t curious and excited about beauty products and selfcare. As a child, before skincare became mainstream, I remember spending hours in my mother’s bathroom looking, reading, and trying everything I could from her vanity drawers. I enjoyed the entire process of selfcare — relaxing in a bath, doing an at-home foot massage, and then putting on all of the lotions, creams, salves, and gels that she would share.

As I got older, I was innately drawn to skincare products, much more so than makeup, and I sought out professional advice for better brands and ingredients. As I began my career after college, my passion for beauty weaved itself into my work naturally as I gravitated toward jobs that encircled the beauty industry until I was eventually part of it. I fueled my passion for beauty as a modeling agent and then as an agent representing makeup artists and hair stylists.

It was then that I segued into publishing and began working with some of the biggest and most renowned beauty brands in the world. Working closely with dermatologists, estheticians, artists, stylists, editors, photographers, and creative directors inspired me to pivot from supporting brands to working in-house at a brand. Being the Creative Brand Manager for Hair La Vie is truly my dream job.

HLV: What's the biggest lesson you've learned in your career?

JM: Trust your gut. If you are passionate about something or know it’s right, stand behind it and stay with it.

HLV: What advice would you give to other women who want to work in beauty/hair care?

JM: Build your network! Get involved in networking events and know that relationships help you learn and open doors!

morning coffee on the go

HLV: What is a typical day in your life like?

JM: For me, it is all about balance. Being able to work from home has been so wonderful as a working mom! I’m up around 6am and do my beauty routine. This grounds me and gets me ready for the day. I spend the morning with my kids (5-year-old twins), doing everything to get them ready for their day — breakfast, pack lunch, and off to school/camp they go. Our morning car rides are one of the best parts of the day when we get to chat, sing songs, and just be together.

After that, I stop for coffee, and if I haven’t worked out at home, I’ll go for a walk. Then work starts. I am on and off calls all day, which I love. I love interacting with various departments, moving projects forward, and making decisions for the HLV team. Some days we have photo shoots, big PR mentions, and hear from consumers — it’s really always a surprise, which keeps me very engaged.

I try to eat healthy meals and snacks during the day, and when my kids get home, it’s a juggling act between work and their needs. After dinner, it’s pretty much bedtime. I’m early to rise and early to sleep and like to keep a pretty strict schedule.

HLV: What does self-care look like for you as a CBM and mom?

JM: Having a set ritual every morning and night ensures that I stop and think about myself, even for a few short minutes. The time when I am in front of the mirror, getting ready for the day or winding down, offers me a moment to be present and grateful, and I have found such peace in those moments.

It also helps that I have a partner who supports my time away with girlfriends, going for a solo hike, or encouraging much-needed time to unwind. Selfcare comes in all kinds of forms, but for me, it’s that essential break so I can reset and be the best Creative Brand Manager, mom, wife, and friend I can be.

Hair La Vie's Mask

HLV: What is your beauty/wellness routine (ritual)?

JM: I have a few, but consistently, I am a skincare and haircare fanatic. I often have our argan oil or HLV mask in my hair if it’s up, and I have a 5 step skincare routine that gives me space to center myself, get ready, or decompress if I need it. My ritual allows me time to acknowledge my gratitude, so I feel as good on the inside as the outside!

HLV: How do you view social media as a way for the HLV (customer) community to engage with the brand?

JM: I think social media can be overwhelming! HLV really works to create a safe and inspiring space where our community can be open, honest, and supportive of one another, no matter what their haircare journey might be. I’ve found that the more vulnerable and mindful we are, the more authentic and engaging our community is. It’s very fulfilling to be part of a brand whose customers are so genuine and special.

HLV: What’s your holy grail product?

JM: Besides Clinical, which has been incredible in helping me grow my hair, is HLV’s Mask. It is so luxurious. I love it so much and use it to bring moisture and repair back to my color-treated hair!

HLV: What are your thoughts on eco-conscience and clean beauty?

JM: For me, clean beauty really means trusted beauty. Knowing a brand values safety and formulates products that are free from unnecessary ingredients is non-negotiable. It’s the benchmark today — a baseline of integrity. I feel the same about being eco-conscious.

Making sustainable choices just reflects the value placed on quality and a commitment to mindfulness. Knowing a brand reflects my own personal values is incredibly important and standing behind a brand that cares about mine and a greater wellbeing is what matters most to me as a consumer and Brand Manager.

HLV: What’s next for HLV, aka your vision?

JM: I want to bring HLV into a modern haircare space with treatments and supplements for all — hair loss and regrowth is a subject that we should be talking about more. It touches so many people, and with our products that work the way they do, it’s an opportunity to help as many people as we can!
