The 10 Best Hair Colors of 2018: Dazzling Hair Dyes and Cool Hues

The 10 Best Hair Colors of 2018: Dazzling Hair Dyes and Cool Hues

It seems like everywhere you look, people are rocking vibrant, dramatic, statement-making hair. Platinum blonde, pink, or ombré, hair color is definitely making waves.

In 2018, the sky isn’t even the limit for hair color, as tastes can cover the natural to the interstellar. Whether you keep it on the earthbound range of hues or want to look like you just dove through a rainbow, check out these hair colors that should be on your shortlist.

Chocolate

While everyone else goes lighter for summer, why not make a statement by going dark? You can never go wrong with a rich, multi-faceted chocolatey brown. Brunette hair can be underrated, but there’s nothing quite like a deep, warm mahogany. Add in some lowlights for extra depth and dimension.

Reddish Brown

Any brunettes out there who want to make a subtle, yet eye-catching difference? Ask for some red and blonde highlights throughout and be prepared for some serious shimmer when you step into the sun.

Caramel

Not quite blonde, not quite brunette, all-over caramel highlights brighten up dark locks and give you the best of both worlds. Nothing quite says eternal summertime like sun-kissed, golden caramel highlights over your natural brunette.

Strawberry Blonde

Natural and bold at the same time? Yes! The shades between blonde and red give a subtle hint of color that really catches the eye. Already a natural strawberry blonde? A little hair dye won’t hurt, so add some dimension with blonde highlights for a gorgeous glow.

Gold

While platinum may be all the rage, you can’t go wrong with a lovely golden blonde. Not at all orange or brassy, soft gold can be shimmery and ethereal. Mix warm tones of honey and caramel with lighter blonde highlights for beachy, summery perfection.

Going from dark to platinum? Gold could be a great place to hang out in between treatments in order to give your hair a break from the bleach, and who knows? The two of you might just be made for each other.

Ombré

Say you want to give the platinum blonde look a try, but you’re not ready to fully commit. A dark-to-platinum ombré is the perfect compromise, and is a bold choice without having to have a full head of bleach.

Not about platinum? Try out an ombre with any color combination that suits your mood!

Platinum

You’ve decided to take the plunge. Maybe you tried out a natural golden blonde or a platinum ombré, but now you’re ready for the ultimate in hair-lightening adventures: platinum blonde.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a brunette or a blonde, going platinum is a bold move. Stick with the classic or go for a cooler silvery-gray look.

Dazzling icy white will likely require multiple bleaching sessions, but for platinum die-hards, it’s totally worth it. Be sure to nourish your lightened hair with deep conditioning masks and work purple shampoo into your routine in order to keep any warm, brassy tones at bay.

Rose Gold

Rose gold has been one of the hottest hair color trends for a reason. Light pinkish-blonde to a deeper bronze shade, rose gold is just fun. All over, balayage, streaks, or ombé, it’s gorgeous no matter how much or little you decide to go for. As with all reds or pinks, upkeep is a must as they wash out and fade quickly.

Lavender

Pastels evoke thoughts of youth and springtime, with lavender being perhaps the most sophisticated of pastels. Fun, fresh, and chic, lavender hair should be the next color on your hair bucket list!

You’ll need to lighten your hair quite a bit in order for it to take a pastel shade, but as an added bonus with purple colors, they’ll wash out to a beautiful silvery-gray.

Dip Dye

Not as subtle as an ombré or a balayage, dip dye not only involves fun pops of color, but blunter, edgier lines in between. Pretty much what the name implies, the ends of hair are lightened and/or dyed while leaving the roots and lengths the same, and you can have the line be as defined or blurred as you like.

This is a great way to try out that lime green or hot pink that you’ve been eyeing but haven’t been ready to take the plunge with your whole head of hair. If you decide that you don’t like the new color, you can always chop it off and go for a bold new cut instead.

Embrace Color!

To liven up your natural hue or to chase the rainbow? No matter what you choose, go for vibrant color that has lots of depth and remember that you can always change it up! At the end of the day, your hair should make you feel great, and nothing puts a spring in your step like a brand new ‘do.

Every color imaginable is fair game, so step out and be bold!
