Your healthy hair bedtime ritual

Your healthy hair bedtime ritual

If you’re not giving your hair a little extra TLC at the end of the night, then you’re missing out. It’s the best time to prepare your hair for a healthy tomorrow. In fact, you might find that prepping the night before gives you better-looking hair the next day as well as a little extra time to enjoy your coffee before it’s go, go, go.

We’ve got some great tips to help you create your very own nightly hair routine. Keep in mind that different hair types might do better with different routines. So feel free to switch things up as needed to achieve the best results.

To wash or not to wash

Some people love to save time and wash their hair before going to bed. The thing to keep in mind, however, is that wet hair is very fragile, and rubbing around on a cotton pillowcase can easily cause breakage.

To combat this, we recommend drying your hair a least most of the way before bed and using a satin or silk pillowcase.

Another great benefit for washing your hair at night is that you can pull it into loose braids or a soft bun on top of your head and take advantage of the subtle waves and lift you get in the morning.

A dry—brush

If you’re going to bed with totally dry hair, then it deserves a brush before bedtime. Opt for a natural boar's bristle brush and start from the top down to disburse hair’s naturally protective oils.

If you have a few tangles, then start at the bottom of your hair and use a wide-toothed comb to work them out first, then give it a good brushing from the top down.

Grab a glass of water

Drinking a glass of water before bed or keeping one at your bedside and drinking it throughout the night will always be great for your hair

The best way to start and end the day is with a large glass of water. Making this a habit will help boost your hair and keep you healthy.

Nighttime protection

You may have noticed people wearing nightcaps to bed in old movies and while it might seem antiquated, it’s actually not a bad idea. That’s because nightcaps protect your hair from excessive rubbing while keeping it loosely contained so it doesn’t pull.

If you don’t have a nightcap, however, you can channel another “old school” look that’s coming back by digging up some scrunchies and using them to loosely pile your hair on top of your head. Elastic hair bands weaken and pull out hair in the night, which is why we recommend a scrunchie or soft hair tie.

Weekly overnight mask

This might not be for everyone, but if you love hair masks and really benefit from them, then adding a weekly overnight mask to your routine will be a treat your hair will love.

Massage your scalp

A nice scalp massage can not only reinvigorate your scalp and stimulate blood flow, but it’s also relaxing and can help you sleep better. To really treat your scalp, we recommend spritzing your fingers with Hair La Vie Serum to rehydrate and repair hair.

Invest in a humidifier

If you live in a climate that has static-filled, dry air during the winter, then you need a humidifier. Your hair already faces enough troubles throughout the day, it doesn’t need to have the moisture zapped out of it while you sleep. Likewise, this will also help if you suffer from a dry complexion, as well.

Final thoughts

As you can see, putting the focus on your hair before bedtime gives it the care and attention it deserves to grow strong and healthy while you’re sleeping.
