Hairstyles To Try When You're Wearing A Hat

Hairstyles To Try When You're Wearing A Hat

In most instances, wearing a hat means that you didn’t have time to wash your hair. Sometimes it’s for styling purposes and for other times it’s just plain comfortable (we know). Equally as important as making the time to wear a hat that suits you, is making the time to match a proper hairstyle to it.

But before we equip you with some new tips, make sure you’re keeping your hair healthy, hat or not.

The Truth About Hats and Hair Loss

There are some important things to keep in mind when wearing a hat, other than conveying the right style, of course. When it comes to maintaining the health of your hair, these rules are important.

-Avoid tight hats as putting stress on your hair follicles can cause traction alopecia. Your hairline could recede due to pulling/rubbing. This can also occur from hair styles like tight braids and buns.

-Make sure your hat is created from natural fibers, so that it's breathable and right for the season.

-Believe it or not, hats are articles of clothing you should be washing so that your skin and hair follicles aren’t bombarded by bacteria. Buildup can cause scalp conditions that lead to hair loss.

-Don’t continually pop on a cap. Keep the act of wearing a hat as functional as possible and take

it off whenever you're indoors or resting. If it’s for style then try to sport it only 1-2 times a week.

-Finally, nourish your hair with the right (natural) hair care system to keep it all hat-hair healthy!

We’ve got some tips for our hat-wearing heroines and it doesn’t mean you’re having a bad hair day. Find the right hat that fits the shape of your face to get the most out of your look and your style.

Top Tips to Remember:

  1. Choose a hat that enhances the shape of your face and compliments your natural features.
(This is one of the most basic rules as it will make you look much more flattering.)

  2. If you’re styling your hair into a ponytail or a chignon, make sure it doesn't disturb the fit of your hat.

  3. You can always leave a few strands free to create a softer, feminine look outside of your cap.

  4. Use hair wax to keep any rogue flyaways in check so you always look sleek and sophisticated.

  5. Avoid heavy accessories beneath the neck as the hat is the center of attention. Keep it that way.

  6. Go for a simple, fuss-free and neat look if your hat is a fancy one. If the chosen hat is plain Jane, you can go for wavy, soft curls to add more drama and flavor to your head-dressed appearance.

Whether your hair is long or short, wavy or straight — we have a solution for every hair type.

Long hair

There are several ideas that you can choose to style your long, gorgeous mane when you’re wearing a hat. Tying your hair into a loose ponytail and leaving a few strands free, creates a fuss-free and elegant look. Or just tie your hair into a neat chignon, use the hair wax to check flyaways and you are set for a formal occasion.

Short hair

Those with short hair might not have several styling options, but we won’t let that stop you from looking fabulous with your hat on! For a more serious look, slick all your hair towards the back so that the hat and face get the attention they deserve. Ensure there are no flyaways. Or just tuck in your hair behind your ears which will further enhance your face shape.

Curly or wavy hair

Curly hair and hats are always a great combo. Enhance your curls using using a curling wand if you have the time, sweep your hair onto one side, put on your favourite hat and you are ready to rock. If you’re feeling bold, swipe on some red lipstick! We’re already swooning thinking how hot you’ll look!

Straight hair

If you’ve decided to keep you hair straight under the hat, make sure there are no wavy and/or uneven ends. Your hair needs to be poker straight and sleek to give you a more well put together look. If the straight, sleek look is a problem, you can always tie it up into a ponytail to give the illusion of more volume. Or also consider wearing a wig if volume is a major problem. You don’t want your mane to look straight but limp and lifeless under that hat.

Bad hair day solution:

Remember, when you wear a hat, it becomes the centre of attention. If you’re truly having a bad hair day (we have just the hair care system to make those days nonexistent) and none of the ideas mentioned above are doing the trick, you can still wear that hat with confidence. Try pulling your hair up into the hat. This keeps your face clean and free, looking as stylish as always.

Hats have never gone out of trend and that is because when worn and styled right, they can add the right touch without totally covering up your locks. Experiment with any of the ideas above and, then pick and choose the one that is best suited for you based on the texture of your hair and face shape.
