6 Commandments For Managing Your Bangs

6 Commandments For Managing Your Bangs

You’ve just chopped your bangs. Thanks to your stylist, they look runway-ready, but we all know that a perfect fringe doesn’t last much longer than a day without some serious help. The extra time and skill needed to keep them styled can often make even the most hair-savvy women regret getting them.

But fear not! Because if you faithfully follow the commandments below, you’ll keep your bangs salon-gorgeous every day, without getting into any sort of fight with your round brush...

Wash daily

Bangs are much more susceptible to grease, which means that they will probably need to be cleansed every day. If you have time during your morning routine, try dampening your bangs over the sink and lathering them with a tiny dab of Hair La Vie’s Revitalize Shampoo. Rinse and immediately go on to Commandment #2.

Blow dry right away

Allowing your bangs to dry even a little could lead to an uneven style. Bangs usually want to fall their own way as they dry, which tends to result in awkward cowlicks and clumps in weird places. To avoid that, we suggest blow drying them on a low-heat setting directly after washing.

Brush carefully

You’ll want the help of a small boar-bristle round brush as you’re blow drying. These tightly packed bristles are perfect for maintaining the right amount of tension as you dry and style. With your non-dominant hand, hold your hair dryer over your head, facing downward, onto your bangs. With your dominant hand, brush your bangs from side to side until they’re dry. Finish by rolling the ends under.

Go light on the product

Try to ignore the temptation to lather on styling products that will weigh down your fringe. If you stay faithful to rules 1-3, you won’t have to worry about holding your bangs in place, anyway. We suggest sticking to Hair La Vie’s Moroccan Repair Serum. After applying the regular amount to the rest of your hair, gently pat any excess onto the ends of your bangs and comb through.

Avoid makeup

After styling, pin your bangs away from your forehead while you apply any moisturizers, powders or foundations. Make sure to let your products dry completely, and if needed, use a blotting tissue to remove any excess oil before unpinning your bangs and letting them fall over your forehead.

Don’t touch them

Our fingers are usually covered in natural oils. They can be easily transferred onto your bangs, which, as we mentioned before, are already much more susceptible to grease. Try to avoid touching them, and if you have to do a mid-day restyling, make sure to wash your hands first.

Bangs can be fun to sport one day and a nightmare the next. They require more upkeep than most cuts, but if you’re comfortable with making the extra effort to maintain them, they can be a great style to play around with.
