What the women of Hair La Vie are doing about haircare & color during quarantine

The Hair La Vie staff has shifted to a work from home lifestyle, and with that comes those same hair challenges you’re facing. We thought you’d be interested in hearing how our staff is using this time to deal with their haircare and coloring routine.

And, believe us, their approaches are wildly different–from Mary A., who shaved her head (yes, she shaved it all off) to Leah S., who replaced going out to dinner and happy hours with a glass of wine and a long soak in the bath, luxuriating in face and hair masks.

These confident women that we get the opportunity to work with regularly, share their struggles about what it’s like to forego salon appointments, and make do at home.

How the HLV staff is dealing with their hair

We asked some specific questions and found that, while the responses could be very different, there are still some overarching themes.

What about “me time”

We wanted to know if having additional “me time” has given anyone the opportunity to revamp or boost their hair care routines. Overwhelmingly we heard about less hair washing and styling. We also discovered that most of our staff simply love their Hair La Vie Mask and turns it into a spa session.

Melanie D., a Contact Center Representative, is making the most of it and says, “I've been able to focus on myself again with all this free time! Masks, serums, and leave-in products are keeping my strands so happy.”

Some members of our staff have young children and find that rather than having extra time, they have less time. MzLaLa in HR has a particularly demanding schedule. “Once I manage to securely lock and bolt my bathroom door and run the bath, HLV is basically one of my very few me-time/self-care products that I look forward to. Don't get me wrong... I love my children.” With two little ones under 4 and a nursing infant–we honestly don’t know how she has time to do everything she does.

Hair routine changes

When you don’t have to come into the office or go out for social events, it seems that one of the first things to go is regular wet shampoos. This is something our whole staff knows is better for their hair but, it’s easier to embrace in theory than in practice–that is until isolation changed everything.

So many people mentioned how their hair is benefitting from less wet shampooing and eliminating or cutting back on heat styling. Racquel F., our HR Administrator, put it best, “One plus side about the quarantine is finally being able to cut back on washing my hair like I know I'm supposed to. I'm down to twice a week, and my hair is looking healthier. My natural waves are becoming more defined and less of a frizzy disaster!”

Roots!

Without salons, one of the biggest complaints out there is regarding roots. So how does our staff manage? They don’t. Root outgrowth is an issue, and it’s something they’re either looking forward to having professionally handled when possible, or they’re crossing their fingers and hoping for an “intentional” ombre effect.

Only one person, Savvy, an HLV Product Specialist, has been brave and confident enough to try (or admit to trying) self-coloring. “I am having to color my own hair, which is not fun, and I'm not good at it. I tend to get it on more than just "the roots," so I think my hair is getting drier.”

Hail the HLV mask and conditioner

Even without regular wet shampoos, we hear that dry and damaged hair is still an issue. It’s something that’s easier to notice when you’re not styling and hiding those imperfections. Over and over again, we’ve heard that the Hair La Vie Mask and Hair La Vie Conditioner (regular conditioner and the Leave-In) are favorites of our staff.

Monica E., our Senior Social Media Coordinator, finds that both are essential to keep her hair healthy, and well-hydrated. “Being blonde means my hair is extremely dry and damaged, so weekly hair masks and leave-in conditioner is a must for me.”

Jen C., our Influencer Relations Coordinator, says, “I can definitely tell this 'rest' period has helped. Right now, I'm just focusing on hydrating hair masks and letting my natural oils do their thing. My hair is noticeably less frizzy, so that's a plus.”

At home styles

We mentioned Mary A.’s solution to her hair concerns at the outset, and we’re impressed by her bravery and her no-holds-barred approach. We honestly can’t wait to see her in the office again. But the rest of our staff decided to hold on to their tresses, so we wanted to know how they’re styling them on a day-to-day basis.

Succinctly put, Savvy said, “Wearing it up a lot more & becoming a BunHead.” Echoing that sentiment, Jessica C., a Content Editor, says, “I have no time to do my hair, and really, I have been putting it up more than usual.”

Hair La Vie puts you first

At Hair La Vie, our natural self-care products are meant to help every woman grow their hair-confidence and feel their best while inspiring positive life changes. We support you in both your best and most trying times.

We are constantly inspired by the strength of women and their choices, and our best-in-class natural formulas make it possible for anyone to have the tools necessary to not only look and feel the way they want but to thrive and discover their best selves yet.

Final thoughts

Hair La Vie understands these trying times because we’re living them with you. Our staff has been gracious enough to share some of their own struggles and a few triumphs with all of us, and we applaud them for their contributions.

What we’re hearing, again and again, is that not going to a salon is difficult, and the two big C’s, cut and color, are causing people a little stress and anxiety. The good news is that the Hair La Vie Mask has emerged as a champion, and in addition to nourishing and hydrating your hair, it has become a “me-time” staple. Adding this to your haircare routine is proving to be a big bonus in the self-care movement, and you deserve it!
