Your scalp is important. Throughout this journey you’ve learned how it is the foundation of your hair success, so let’s give your scalp a fresh start with a detox.
We pretty much love everything about cinnamon. This affordable spice comes with different flavor profiles, it’s delicious, it’s been used for thousands of years as a food additive and to cure ailments, and it’s easy to come by.
While we love a good cinnamon roll, this time around we’re looking for a recipe that lets us smear detoxifying cinnamon all over our scalps and hair. Of course, we have just the right recipe for that.
In fact, we have several, and we’re going to share them all so you can pick your very favorite.
*Caution: You should do a patch test on your skin before applying any cinnamon treatment to your scalp, as there is a possibility of an allergic reaction (even if you don’t have a reaction when eating cinnamon in food).
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons organic honey
3 tablespoons cinnamon powder
1 teaspoon raw, organic coconut oil
3-4 squirts Hair La Vie Serum
Directions:
Mix ingredients in a bowl (you can use your fingers to mix it). Once it’s thoroughly incorporated, use the pads of your fingers to massage it into your scalp.
You can enjoy this cinnamon scrub soaking on your scalp for up to an hour.
One thing to note, though, the coconut oil will melt or liquefy as it comes in contact with your scalp. If you’re going to wear it a short amount of time, may we suggest doing this scrub in the shower?
If you’re going to leave it on for a long time, you’ll probably want to drape a towel over your shoulders to protect your clothing.
Ingredients:
3 cups warm water
1 heaping tablespoon of baking soda
1 standard tablespoon of cinnamon
Directions:
Combine all ingredients together. We suggest putting them all in a Tupperware container, sealing the lid and shaking vigorously to make sure it’s mixed well.
Once the baking soda is completely dissolved, pour over your head. Carefully massage your entire scalp for up to five minutes.
Make sure to rinse clear and then condition as usual.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
2 tablespoons cinnamon powder
5-6 tablespoons organic apple cider vinegar
Directions:
Combine all three ingredients. You might want to use the Tupperware trick again, just to mix well without spilling.
Then take all of it into the shower with you and saturate your head with it, making sure to give yourself a good scalp massage while you’re at it. When you’re done, rinse with cool water to get a great finish.
So why are we so keen on using cinnamon to detox your scalp? Well, we really do love the smell, but it’s actually because it’s packed with health benefits. Check them out:
♦ Cinnamon helps both the scalp and hair get rid of toxins, build-up, and excess sebum.
♦ It stimulates hair growth and, when paired with a good scalp massage.
♦ It provides the scalp with much-needed nutrients.
♦ It can help with dandruff problems.
♦ It strengthens hair follicles, which in turn reduces hair loss.
♦ Cinnamon contains eugenol and cinnamaldehyde, which are antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial.
Has all this talk of cinnamon got you craving a delicious taste treat? Us too! And we have just the thing.
This amazing Multigrain Hot Cereal with Cranberries and Oranges Recipe is one of our favorites for hair health because it uses ingredients that support overall health as well as hair health. It’s one of those fantastic meals that make you feel good about your food choices.
The original recipe does not feature cinnamon, but we’ve tried—a half a teaspoon of cinnamon is the perfect amount to add some extra zip to this dish. It also boosts the nutritional value it provides to your hair and body.
Cinnamon is one of those wonderful spices that adds almost no calories and plenty of flavors. It’s no wonder that it’s been around and prized for centuries. Cinnamon bursts with nutritional benefits; in fact, it’s so powerful that it works as an external agent as well.
Not everyone is a big fan of scrubs, so we’ve included some options for you this time. You can use cinnamon as a scrub, a shampoo, and a rinse. We’ve even given you a great recipe that’s even better with the addition of cinnamon.
The important thing to remember here is we’re looking to detoxify the scalp. Your scalp works hard to grow hair, fight the elements, deal with styling products & tools and manage your head’s oil production.
Every once in awhile, it’s nice to treat it to a little detoxifying. You and you and your scalp will benefit from a fresh start.
