Texture, texture, texture. That’s the name of the game when it comes to modern hairstyles. So how do you achieve that texture without damaging the sleek, long locks you worked so hard to get?
We’ve got tips to help you get those soft, beachy waves without a lot of expense, an easy DIY recipe for making your own texturizing spray, and we’ve also found a fantastic video that will show you how to get that textured look naturally. Let’s dive in.
The effortless, beach lifestyle hair trend has been around for a while now. This look says that your life is so great, you spend every day at the beach. Even if you actually work in an office during most of the best sunlight hours.
The beachy look relies on lots of texture and a little sun-kissed color. The color you can try yourself, or go to your favorite hairdresser for some high and low lights to replicate that beach-bum look.
For texture, you’ll need a great sea salt texturizing spray and we’ve got just the recipe.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon unrefined organic coconut oil (melted)
1 tablespoons N°77 Leave-In
Directions:
Combine the sea salt and water in a spritzer bottle and shake until the salt dissolves.
Add coconut oil and leave-in conditioner and shake until well mixed.
Apply to towel-dried hair.
Sea salt is amazing for your hair, but it’s also dehydrating. If you’ve been working hard to get moisture into your hair, you understand that sea salt should be used sparingly.
This recipe and all other hair products that use sea salt should be reserved for once-weekly use at the most.
That said, when you’re using it, you can still get great benefits from sea salt, like minerals that boost your hair’s volume & strength and add the texture you want.
In addition, salt is great at absorbing extra oil, so it can almost work like a dry shampoo. This means you might find the best results by skipping shampoo on the day you’re going to use it.
Take a shower like you normally would and condition like always, but skip the washing part and let your texture spray work out any excess oil you may have.
Another important reminder: wash your hair after using this spray. While we love the texture sea salt gives us, we don’t want it to sit in our hair longer than necessary. A fresh wash the next morning is exactly what your hair needs.
If you find that you’re totally in love with the results you get from this texture spray, you might want to try using a sea salt mask to give your hair a spa-like massage and create volume from the roots.
On those days when you still want texture, but you want to avoid the spray, these tips will help you get the look you want.
Sleep on a few braids, then apply a flat iron to them the following morning. The flat iron helps hold the wave of the braid and then it can be used on individual pieces to work them out.
Try to stay away from braids that are too tiny, as they will just create a frizzy look.
Instead of using sea salt spray, try Hair La Vie Serum. This lightweight serum is easily absorbed by your hair and moisturizes it, preparing it for a little curling iron action.
When curling, focus on just the middle length of your hair and make sure your curls go in different directions. This creates a softly tousled look, just like a day at the beach, but without the sand.
If you have some time, throw Velcro rollers in damp hair and then let the hair dry around the rollers. This look starts out bold, but it quickly softens into gentle waves. Don’t be alarmed by the big results you see at first—you’ll love the finish.
For a quick and amazing beachy look, try a homemade sea salt spray. The results are dynamic and exactly what you’re looking for.
Sea salt does incredible things for your hair but it should only be used infrequently to avoid dehydration. If you want texture all the time, there are some styling techniques you can learn to really master the look.
Bonus tip! If you’re really serious about having beautiful beach hair, look into the benefits of farro.
This ancient grain is packed with good stuff and most of it promotes great hair. It’s true and we’ve tried it. We’ve also tried this Greek Tomato and Cucumber Salad with Farro recipe and think you’ll love it just as much as we do.
