Breast Cancer Awareness Month—Hair La Vie’s stories of strength

Breast Cancer Awareness Month—Hair La Vie’s stories of strength

October is about more than Halloween. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is a time to bring awareness to the illness and to resources around treatment. It's also a time to support the survivors and people that battle with it every day.

One of the hardest things people living with breast cancer face is how the chemotherapy changes their appearance, specifically causing hair loss. But the stories of two women, in particular, show us how to stand up to breast cancer.

How we can help together

Thousands of individuals take part in breast cancer awareness events, marches, and fundraisers during the month of October. Hair La Vie does our part too, donating 5% of profits during the month of October to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

With chemo-related hair loss, we understand all too well the struggles women face, and we want all women out there to know we are here to support them.

As scary as cancer is, thousands of women show us that it does not have to beat you. Bernice is one such individual.

Start strong, stay strong

Like many people, Bernice never thought it would happen to her, and now, having to beat the disease herself has given her a new look on life. “Having just laid my sister to rest, I could not bear to tell my mother.”

Bernice remembers thinking the worst at very first. Like many women diagnosed with breast cancer, it is difficult to find hope, at least at first.

Rather than giving in to cancer, Bernice “hit the ground running” by contacting every doctor and specialist as well as conducting her own research to find out how to beat it. Bernice praises the support of her family as the main reason she beat cancer and shares her story as a hopeful message to keep others positive.

Her family “would not allow her to have a pity party,” so she faced cancer head-on and won a lot in the process.

Raising awareness and educating others about breast cancer is the best way to help women through diagnosis and through the fight. Positivity is a key player in beating the disease, as Bernice’s story shows us.

Medicine and treatment play their part, but many cancer survivors boast that their outlook was the ultimate game-changer.

Support from unexpected places

Michelle, another strong woman who reached out to us to share her story, was diagnosed with breast cancer and proceeded to get the treatment she needed to survive. The great fear she had of losing her hair came true, and she admits being “heartbroken.”

Hair loss can be devastating, and even after fighting the disease and beating it, it took time before Michelle truly felt herself again.

Michelle’s story warmed our hearts as she shared the role that Hair La Vie played in her recovery from cancer. Having lost her hair, a friend told her of our products.

After a little bit of time not missing a dose, her hair began to “grow like a weed.” Michelle retained a fighting spirit through the battle with cancer, and as a result of that indomitable spirit, she found an answer with Hair La Vie.

As more-than-avid supporters of the fight against breast cancer, Hair La Vie promotes natural products to care for your hair and promote the healthiest locks you can get.

Having a founder who is a cancer survivor, we understand the struggles women face and the devastation that comes with hair loss. The success stories we share serve to promote hope in others and support the cause by offering natural hair care products to repair hair.

As therapies and treatments continue to be developed to give our bodies an edge against cancer, more is also being done to provide emotional support. Battling cancer is more than just fighting at a cellular level, as these women have to maintain a positive outlook during their darkest hours.

With survivors like Michelle and Bernice sharing their stories, women all over the world can stay strong in the fight.

Fighting for the future, and looking great doing it!

Hair La Vie not only understands the struggles women face with breast cancer, but we praise and admire these women of the world. Beyond sharing uplifting stories, the month of October is about increasing awareness for women to love themselves and check regularly for signs of breast cancer.

Early detection goes a long way in surviving the disease, and educating both men and women promotes this proactive approach.
